American Red Cross offers Disaster Volunteer Training

The American Red Cross of Ottawa County is actively recruiting community members to become Red Cross disaster volunteers. These volunteers will be trained as Disaster Action Team members to respond to fires, floods, tornadoes, and other emergency situations. As the weather turns colder and furnaces are turned on for the season, house fires become more common, and the need for trained volunteers rises.

American Red Cross offers safe cooking tips

The American Red Cross responds to thousands of fires in peoples’ homes every year and most of those fires occur while someone is cooking. The focus of this year’s National Fire Prevention Week is “Prevent Kitchen Fires” and the Red Cross is offering fire prevention tips. 

Last year, the American Red Cross Northwest Ohio Region responded to 563 fires, providing local families with food, clothing, temporary shelter, comfort kits, medication reimbursement, and more.

Local businesses and individuals were recognized recently for their generous major contributions to this year’s American Red Cross of Ottawa County Club Red Gala. Extraordinary prizes and services have been received from community partners. The prizes will be available for auction at the Red Cross Boogie Woogie Bugle Girls of Company Red Gala on July 19.
