Stein Hospice veteran health & information fair

When Frank DeLorenzo returned from Iraq, a physician said a service dog might help him cope with anxiety and other issues related to a brain injury and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. But Frank had a difficult time finding such a dog.

Now, thanks to Wags 4 Warriors, a non-profit founded by Frank and his wife Jen, Frank and other Veterans throughout Ohio are finding comfort and companionship from specially trained dogs. “It’s just amazing what the dogs can do,” Jen said.

Wags 4 Warriors is one of about three dozen organizations participating in the Veteran Health and Information Fair on Friday, June 14, at the Ohio Veterans Home in Sandusky, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.  (Enter from SR 250 and follow signs to Veterans Hall). The event is free and open to Veterans of all ages, military family and friends and the general public.

U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs representatives will be on hand to discuss VA Healthcare enrollment and eligibility and other benefits. Information is available for all Veterans from Operation New Dawn to World War II.

The fair also features:

  • Free health and vision screenings
  • Local, state, federal and community exhibits, including The Job Store, Firelands Regional Medical Center, and more
