Local author on hand for book signing

Marblehead resident Nelda “Nel” Adcock will hold a book signing for her recently published children’s book, “My Firelands Adventure,” from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 9, at the Wolcott Keeper’s House, 9999 Bayshore Road, Marblehead.
Adcock was inspired to write the book while volunteering at the Keeper’s House annex and gift shop, and enjoying the aroma of apple scones being prepared next door on the Keeper’s House fireplace by fellow docent Ray Machar. She wove the idea of the tempting aroma into a story about Selima Wolcott, Benajah Wolcott’s younger daughter, and a young Indian boy. Selima, who was unhappy about leaving her home and friends in Connecticut to go to the wild Firelands frontier, meets the young boy and shares an adventure. She learns a few things along the way, as will Nel’s young readers — the retired teacher admits hiding many interesting facts in the story.
