The Lakeside Quilt Show will be on display June 23-July 7 in the Hoover Auditorium Lobby at 7:45 p.m., a half-hour prior to all evening shows at Hoover Auditorium.
An annual tradition, the Lakeside Quilt Show will once again bring a multitude of colors to the auditorium walls in the opening three weeks of the Chautauqua season. Quilts of various sizes will be displayed, including twin- and crib-size bed quilts and wall hangings. Quilts may be hand or machine-quilted and reflect historic quilt patterns or modern designs. There will also be a special section of vintage quilts, made prior to 1950.
This is not the first time that quilts have been displayed in the auditorium. In 1930, the third year after the establishment of the Lakeside Women’s Club, the group hosted an antique show and sale in the lobby of Central Auditorium, which was the original name of Hoover Auditorium.
Antique furniture and glassware filled the lobby and, according to the LWC minutes from 1930, “Central Auditorium walls were hung with nearly 100 quilts, coverlets and antique shawls.” The LWC Antique and Quilt Show continued to be held in Central Auditorium for a number of years during the Great Depression.
Hoover Auditorium is located at 115 Third St. in Lakeside. Admission to the Lakeside grounds requires a Daily Gate Pass ($18.50 for adults, $12.75 for youth ages 12-18, and free for children under 12 and guests over 90). The Lakeside Quilt Show is free once inside the gates of Lakeside. A partial day, or three-hour, gate pass is available for $5.75.
Free parking is available at Danbury High School (cars must be registered at the Hoover Auditorium Ticket Office). There is no shuttle service provided to or from the school. To park on the Lakeside grounds or the South Gate Parking Lot, there is a $7.75 auto fee.
