Join the Terra Choral Society as they present “A Choral Celebration!”
Experience three centuries of choral favorites in 60 minutes, from Baroque to Gospel. The program includes selections by composers such as Handel, Verdi, Bruckner and Moses Hogan, as well timeless songs such as “O Danny Boy,” “Precious Lord, Take My Hand” and “This Little Light of Mine.”
Vocal faculty instructor Joan Eckermann (soprano) will join the Choral Society in a performance of the “Easter Scene and Prayer” from the opera Cavalleria Rusticana and again on the classic spiritual “Didn’t My Lord Deliver Daniel.” Whether you enjoy traditional choral classics or new contemporary chorus literature, there is something here for you. The Terra Choral Society is under the direction of Michael Shirtz and accompanied by Jane Beckley.
The Terra Choral Society originated as a small campus chorus in 2000 with 20 community members and students. Growing along with the college’s music programs, the chorus officially became the Terra Choral Society in 2006.
Today it is a non-profit performance ensemble that serves as the community/student chorus-in-residence at Terra State Community College in Fremont. Comprised of more than 100 student and community singers across five counties in Northwest Ohio, membership ranges from high school students to adults. TCS is often accompanied by the college’s Chamber Arts Orchestra and collaborates annually in performances with regional arts organizations and schools.
The chorus has performed with such artists as Joyce Carolyn, C. Andrew Blosser and Elizabeth Von Trapp. Since 2002, TCS has performed masterworks by Faure, Brahms, Mozart and Handel, tribute concerts to Aaron Copland, Leonard Bernstein, the Stage & Screen and annual large-scale productions paying tribute to America’s Veterans. In May TCS will be performing at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. as part of the nation’s Memorial Day Choral Festival. The mission of TCS is to promote cultural enrichment through choral music, with educational and performance opportunities for college students and community singers.
A Choral Celebration will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 27, at Port Clinton Performing Arts Center, 821 Jefferson St., Port Clinton.
The concert is presented again 4 p.m. Sunday, April 29, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 709 Croghan St., Fremont. Terra's Choral Leadership and Distinguished Service in the Arts Award will be presented during Sunday's concert.
These concerts are free and open to the public.
