Terra State Community College’s Jazz and American Music Series next nightclub concert, “Remembering Dave Brubeck,” will be March 8.
This concert features the musical works of jazz legend Dave Brubeck presented by the Michael Shirtz Quartet, trombonist Doug Neel, and saxophonist Mike Mlakar. The night will include such tunes as Take Five, Blue Rondo a la Turk, and many more favorites.
Brubeck died at age 91 in December, leaving behind a legendary career that spanned more than seven decades. His unique experimentations in time with the famed Dave Brubeck Quartet introduced jazz to a whole new generation of listeners and musicians that transformed not just jazz, but the music of the 20th century. Jazz singer/pianist Michael Shirtz presents a stirring tribute of Brubeck’s work with both musical and personal tributes.
The Michael Shirtz Quartet also features Keith Barber (guitar), Kris Bert (bass) and Chris Cavera (drums).
“Remembering Dave Brubeck” is Friday, March 8 at 7:30 p.m. in the Recital Hall at Terra State. Admission is $10 with a required reservation. Audience goers must call the Terra State Ticket Office at 419-559-2379 to make their reservations. The nightclub concert includes coffee, soft drinks and desserts.
