New home shop in downtown PC

The Port Clinton Chamber recently held a ribbon cutting at Keith Fleming Home Furnishings and Accessories at 132 E. Second St., Port Clinton. Fleming, a Port Clinton native who has been living in Texas, moved home to open the shop that specializes in a fun, energetic mix of antiques and new items. The new addition to downtown is quirky and fun showcasing folk art and more.

Business planning workshop coming up

Main Street Port Clinton’s Economic Restructuring Committee invites you to attend a free workshop focusing on creating a business plan and the resources available for information and assistance along the way. This workshop is scheduled for 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Monday, July 23, at the Ida Rupp Public Library located at 310 Madison St. Registration begins at 4 p.m.

Coffee shop, fitness studio open for business

Two new businesses are celebrating grand openings in downtown Oak Harbor: Mill Street Brew, at 169 Mill St., and Lisa’s Fitness Studio at 165 W. Water St.
Mill Street Brew is a coffeehouse owned and operated by Chris and Rachel Varga. They have a variety of coffee drinks, smoothies, muffins, sandwiches, salads and more. Safety Council enrollment period open

July 31 is The FY13 enrollment period for new and Safety Council members who are interested in qualifying for a rebate of 2 percent or more on their Workers’ Compensation premiums. It is also time for dues renewal and submission of 1st Half 2012 Semi-annual Reports for present members.
In a special incentive program, the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation is offering Ottawa County area employers a one-time rebate of 2 percent on their Workers’ Compensation premiums for active participation in Safety Council during the next 12 months. The rebate offer excludes self-insuring employers or state agencies. New for FY13 is that employers participating in BWC group-retrospective programs are eligible for a 2 percent participation rebate. As in FY12 group-experience-rating members are eligible for a 2 percent performance rebate. For many companies, the 2 percent or 4 percent savings will actually outweigh the cost of membership in Safety Council.

Safety Council holds summer picnic

The Ottawa County Safety Council will meet Wednesday, July 18, at Crosswinds Restaurant, 280 SE Catawba Road, Port Clinton. The “Summer Picnic” begins at 11 a.m. with lunch and networking with the meeting and presentation set to run from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
The speaker is Jeff Hutchins, BWC Industrial Hygienist/Technical Advisor. The topic is Heat Stress-Prevention and Procedures.
