Housing sales jump in March

Home sales activity reached its highest level since 2008, according to a release from the Ohio Association of Realtors. All aspects of home sales in the area represented by the Firelands Association of Realtors (Erie, Ottawa, Sandusky, Seneca and Huron counties) showed significant gains for the month of March based on OAR statistics.

Tri County Safety Day is May 9

The annual Tri County Safety Day will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 9 at Terra State Community College.
The event, “Safety from Head to Toe,” is sponsored by Ottawa County, Sandusky County and Sandusky Area safety councils.
The day begins at 7:45 a.m. with a presentation for CEOs by Steve Buehrer, Bureau of Workers’ Compensation Administrator. A Drug Free Workplace Refresher for Supervisors follows at 9 a.m.
General sessions, which also begin at 9 a.m., include the following topics: forklift safety, OSHA updates, emergency planning, summer help/teen safety, FMLA and Workers’ Comp, eye safety, personal protective equipment, workplace violence, identity theft and much more.
Registration deadline is April 30.

OCIC director recognized for leadership efforts

OCIC director recognized for leadership effortsThe Northwest Ohio Regional Economic Development Association recently presented OCIC Director Jamie Beier Grant with its Flame Award for Leadership Excellence at the organization’s annual meeting held on March 22. According to NORED’s President, Kay Reiter, the Flame Award was established in 2011 to recognize a business or individual who has distinguished themselves by their ongoing leadership and guidance in forming a stronger economic climate throughout Northwest Ohio.

The Ohio Small Business Development Center at Terra State Community College is offering free, two-hour seminars, “Small Business Basics,” that will answer questions about starting, buying or expanding a small business.
This seminar will take the confusion out of your efforts and help you avoid costly mistakes and unnecessary steps. Learn the basics of: name registration, licensing, taxes, zoning, business entities, employees, insurance, financing and business planning.

Marketing: getting the most bang for your buck

The Port Clinton Area Chamber of Commerce and Ida Rupp Library are sponsoring a new business seminar: Everything you need to know about getting the most bang for your buck in marketing. The one-hour workshop will be presented by Jeff Krabill of Krabill Marketing Group. Krabill taught marketing at Bowling Green State University for more than 16 years before opening his own marketing firm in our area.
