Port Clinton boys take championship in doubles at SBC

Following are the results of the 2013 SBC Boys Tennis Tournament that was held at Baywinds Athletic Club in Perkins Twp. on Friday, May 10 and Saturday, May 11.

1st Team All-SBC

Jeff Griffin (11) - Port Clinton - Doubles Champion
Zach Grealy (12) - Perkins - Doubles - 2nd Place
Cody Dominick (11) - Perkins - Doubles - 2nd Place

Port Clinton defeats Huron, 9-2

Port Clinton 9, Huron 2

Kate Mueller led the way at the plate and in the circle, helping Port Clinton to defeat Huron, 9-2.

Mueller hit two doubles and drove in four runs to lead the Redskins. She allowed two runs, striking out five and walking two to get the win.

With the win, Port Clinton improves to 8-10 overall and 7-4 in the Sandusky Bay Conference.

Hope Thorbahn had three hits and Shelby Radloff went 2-for-4 with a home run.

Clyde 10, Port Clinton 0 (5 inn.)

Holding a one-run lead in the fifth, the Clyde Fliers broke the game open with nine runs to defeat Port Clinton, 10-0, in a Div. II Sectional Semifinal at Clyde High School on Saturday.

Oak Harbor goes 2-1 for the week

St. Mary CC 4, Oak Harbor 3

After Oak Harbor rallied from a three-run deficit to tie it up late, the St. Mary Panthers scored a run in the bottom of the seventh to win, 4-3.

Mark Konieczny drove in A.J. Cecil with the tying run in the seventh with two outs. In the sixth, Ben Genzman started the rally with a single before the Rockets scored two runs to cut the deficit to 3-2.

Nate Segaard took the loss for the Rockets, allowing four runs (three earned) on six hits.

Oak Harbor 13, Clyde 6

Holding a one-run lead in the fourth, the Rockets put the game away with three runs on its way to a 13-6 victory over Clyde.

A.J. Cecil went 4-for-5 with a double and two stolen bases and Andy Rathbun and Mark Konieczny drove in four runs apiece.

Brandon Uher got the win, allowing six runs on seven hits in 3.2 innings of work.

Oak Harbor 12, Tiffin Calvert 2 (5 inn.)

Oak Harbor took control from the outset, scoring nine runs in the first two innings on its way to defeating Tiffin Calvert, 12-2, in five innings.

A.J. Cecil went 3-for-4 with a triple and scored three times. Mark Konieczny went 2-for-3 and drove in three runs and Ben Genman had two RBIs to lead the Rockets.

Cecil got the win, allowing two runs on two hits in five innings of work. He struck out five and walked four.

Benefit breakfast for Lynne Zibert Domokos

There will be a Pancake Breakfast Benefit for Lynne Zibert Domokos on Sunday, May 19, from 8 a.m. to noon at the Elks Lodge, 231 Buckeye Blvd., Port Clinton. The cost is $10 for adults and $5 for children 6 years old and younger. There will also be a reverse raffle during the breakfast and fish bowl items.

Lynne had her second surgery on May 10 at the Cleveland Clinic, after falling ill on Jan. 2 with the rare auto-immune disease relapsing polychondritis. She has been manager of Our Guest Inn & Suites for 15 years and recently also for The Listening Room. Lynne has dedicated countless hours over those years to community service in Port Clinton and to the Walleye Drop.
