Good News for Western Basin Walleye Anglers

It sure has been nice being able to wear shorts out in the boat these past couple of weeks. I thought the warm weather would never arrive, but I’m sure glad it finally did! 

Water temperatures are now in the high 60’s and low 70’s and there are still plenty of walleye in the area. Reports of big fish being caught to the east, (Lorain and further east), have begun, so those fish have already left the west end and are on the move to their summer hunting grounds. However, there is still some pretty phenomenal walleye fishing to be had from Toledo to Vermilion.

What a Great Holiday Weekend!

Who could ask for more? The weather was fantastic, and the fish cooperated nicely.  

Light winds made fishing very pleasant and moving around from spot to spot was an easy task.  Fish were everywhere from in close, up to Canada, and to the east of the Western Basin. While some resident big fish can still be caught on the end, the majority have been on the move, due to the water temperatures rising. Temps are now in the high 60s in most places, and the big girls are on the move to cooler/deeper waters to the east.

Skipper Bud’s Fishing Derby

The Skipper Bud’s Fishing Derby was held at Derby Pond at Waterworks Park on Sunday, May 25, from 12-1 p.m. Many children, families and friends lined the shore of Derby Pond to participate in the event. Prior to the derby, the National Professional Anglers Association presented a kids fishing clinic from 11:30 a.m. to the start of the derby.
