David Prudhomme and Ruth Schneider at Mederi Wellness office
On a quiet corner at Adams and Third Street in Port Clinton sits an inviting house surrounded by gardens and a labyrinth. This office of Mederi Wellness has become a destination that is making a difference for individuals, couples, families and companies from around the area, around Ohio and around the world.
David S Prudhomme and Ruth E Schneider have been building their business of “Helping you Shift from where you are to where you want to be” for the past seven years. Until recently, their reputation has been growing largely by word of mouth and from seminars they have conducted. During that time thousands of people have benefited from their programs in areas that include weight loss, pain management, smoking cessation and stress reduction. “The Best Me NOW” program is geared toward individual issues and personal development. “The Best Partnership NOW” is tailored to relationships. “The Best Parent NOW” addresses parenting and family issues. “The Best Workplace NOW” focuses on improving communication and reducing stress in the workplace.
From Stressed to Best
Last year Prudhomme and Schneider launched a program they have been developing and writing for the past five years. “From Stressed to Best” is the first program to employ the universally used and validated MBTI (Myers-Briggs Type Indicator) Personality Assessment tool to assist individuals and companies reduce stress, improve communication and increase overall wellness.
“By understanding which of the 16 personality types an individual is born with, we can help people change their ‘software’, how they think and feel, even though their ‘hardware’ (personality type) never changes,“ said Schneider, who has worked with the MBTI for 25 years with individuals, the military and corporations. “The program does not put you in a box, but rather it helps you plan to do everything you want to do without as much stress. When people recognize their own individual strengths, it is empowering.”
“Most companies are now realizing that individual and workplace stress underlies nearly all problems, that stress is a significant cost to a company. They are looking for ways to reduce stress and cost,” said Prudhomme. The World Health Organization estimates that stress costs American businesses $300 billion dollars a year (Forbes, “Stress at Work…”, 8/02/2012).
When Prudhomme and Schneider attended the Association for Psychological Type International (APTi) conference in Miami in July, their From Stressed to Best training kits and workbook sets for corporations were purchased by trainers and companies from throughout the States and around the world, including Japan, Germany, Switzerland, Ireland, Australia, Canada and Kuwait.
Barbara Miller of Cincinnati, who leads the network of Procter and Gamble MBTI trainers for North America, discovered the From Stressed to Best program at the APTi conference and uses the program with internal and external clients. “I am most enthusiastic about the program,” said Miller. “It takes the MBTI from theory to practice, and is a great tool for building effectiveness in individuals and teams, at work and at home. The comprehensive nature of the From Stressed to Best program works with all types. What is most gratifying is when people come back and say how the training has helped. I am thrilled to have it as part of my portfolio.”
Bringing business and businesses to Port Clinton
Individuals and companies come to Port Clinton for Mederi Wellness’s individualized training classes held at the Adams Street office or at The Island House. The classes can be tailored to any size group. Most attendees stay three or four days for the seminars, benefiting the local economy as they patronize hotels, shops and restaurants.
One of the companies that has benefitted from Mederi Wellness training is South Shore Marine of Huron, one of the top 100 boat dealerships in the country. Owner Tom Mack began with individual training with Prudhomme, then attended couples training with his wife, and then brought his sales and service teams for corporate training. “I can’t believe that this gem, these world-class trainers, is located in Port Clinton. It is a pleasure to work with people with a passion for what they do,” said Mack. “Our company invests heavily in training, and we look for return on investment. With this training, the return was immediate. Stress in the workplace is very much on an employer’s mind. You can only stretch a rubber band so far. Ruth and David helped us understand how others on our team are wired. That is an incredible advantage. We saw immediate results,” said Mack. “At the beginning of the training, the prevalent attitude was ‘Oh boy, another training.’ The night after the training, I received four or five emails thanking me.”
“Our goal is to get this information out to as many people as possible, to teach people how to better understand themselves and others, to recognize the true source of their stress based on their hardwired personality type, and then how to relax their minds and bodies and consciously shift back to their areas of strength; to shift from their stress mode to their best mode.” said Prudhomme.
