Muffler Smiths join Brakes for Breasts

The Muffler Smiths Complete Auto Repair is proudly supporting Breast Cancer Awareness Month by participating in the Brakes for Breasts campaign fundraiser where during the month of October this independently-owned auto repair shop is joining 50 other independent shops representing 19 states across the U.S. by offering their customers FREE brake pads and donating 10% of every brake service directly to The Cleveland Clinic Breast Cancer Vaccine Research Fund.

The Brakes For Breasts fundraiser is different from many breast cancer fundraising campaigns which run during October because funds raised by these independently-owned auto repair shops goes directly to the Cleveland Clinic Breast Cancer Vaccine Fund in order to fund research of a vaccine which will lead to a cure for breast cancer, not just treatments for the disease.

Another way that this fundraising mission is different from many other breast cancer fundraising efforts is that 100% of the proceeds go directly to the Cleveland Clinic and zero percent of these donated profits are lost in any type of marketing and or administrative fees. Program founder Leigh Anne Best felt it important to create a program where the participating shops could raise money for an organization working on a breast cancer vaccine cure while each shop can see the direct impact of all the funds they raise.

2013 marks the third year for the Breaks For Breasts fundraiser. It was launched in 2011 by two women, Leigh Anne Best of Mighty Auto Pro in Medina, and Laura Frank of Royal Car Care & Tire Center in Brunswick. Of the past two years fundraising successes and with this year’s enrollment jump, Leigh Anne Best says:

“The third time is a charm! Our first year (2010), we raised $10k with 5 shops. In 2012 we asked our fellow independently-owned auto repair shop owners across the country to join our mission and we tripled participation while raising $33,000k. This year, we are 50 shops strong and have set a goal of $50K with 100% of their proceeds going to the Cleveland Clinic Breast Cancer Vaccine Fund.
