Director of Nursing celebrates 35 years at Edgewood Manor

On Friday, Feb. 22, Kaye Lipstraw, Director of Nursing at Edgewood Manor, celebrated 35 years with the facility. The facility is holding a celebration on her accomplishment in March.

Lipstraw completed her RN degree at the St. Vincent School of Nursing in Toledo and she began her career at the Medical College of Ohio (now University of Toledo Medical Center.) In 1978, she began her career at Edgewood Manor as a charge nurse. At the time, Kaye’s mother, Mary Mehlow, was the Director of Nursing. Mary remained in that position until 1990 when she retired.

Lipstraw has had great success while at Edgewood Manor. She has moved up the ladder through hard work, dedication and compassion for the residents and their families. She has lead the nursing team to outstanding achievements such as ten consecutive years of Clinical Excellence, a measure of clinical statistics that demonstrate a high level of quality care, and in 2012 a Deficiency Free Health Survey as awarded by the Ohio Department of Health.

“Kaye has exceeded every expectation that I could ever have in a Director of Nursing, business partner and friend,” said Lori Opfer, CEO at Edgewood Manor. “She has allowed the facility to grow and expand while providing excellent care to our residents and training to her nurses. Edgewood Manor is truly lucky to have found such a gem in Kaye.” Opfer added.

When asked why she has stayed at Edgewood for so long, Lipstraw had a simple response, “the people.”  She stated, “I have seen many new faces over the years but we have always had an exceptional group people working here. Any facility is a building with walls. It is the people inside that make it special and that is why I am still here.” She also added that she has had great pleasure in watching her staff grow and develop. “It is so wonderful to be able to share my experiences with new nurses and watch them blossom and take on their own style. Looking back that has been extremely rewarding to me.”

Lipstraw was born, raised and still resides in Oak Harbor. She and her husband Bob have two sons and several grandchildren with whom they spend much of their free time. Michael and his wife Stacey live in Millbury and have three children, Avery, 6, Calvin, 4 and Lacey, 3. Jeff and his wife Angie reside in Graytown and have one son, Ryker, 2
