Marblehead once again has a market

This week the Marblehead Market opened, bringing a place to purchase milk and eggs and beer and wine back to Marblehead. Since Mutach’s Market moved to Danbury Township, Marblehead has been without a market. Willy and Deb Steinbrick saw the need and the opportunity. Their daughter Trudi Lucas, who will also be working at the market, said, “What an inconvenience it has been to not have a place(in town) to get bread and milk.”

Whitaker completes training

Navy Fireman Andrew J. Whitaker, son of Christy L. Whitaker of Oak Harbor, recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, IL. 

During the eight-week program, Whitaker completed a variety of training which included classroom study and practical instruction on naval customs, first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival, and shipboard and aircraft safety. An emphasis was also placed on physical fitness.

Pause for a child at the Ottawa County Family Fun Fair

Parenting can be tough. Finding help and preparing for the challenges of parenting doesn’t have to be. To enjoy a day of family fun and find out more about local services and organizations for your family, come to the Ottawa County Family Fun Fair, Saturday, April 27, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Bataan Memorial Elementary School in Port Clinton. 

The Ottawa County Family Fun Fair features a variety of games and activities for kids and information about resources available to families.

Danbury Community Garden

If you live in an apartment or have no space for a garden, the Danbury Community Garden offers the opportunity to have your own plot. Plots are available for individuals, or as a summer projects for a Scout groups, church group, or youth group to grow produce for the Danbury Food Pantry.  

The Danbury Community Garden is located behind (and sponsored by) St. Paul Lutheran Church, 541 Church Road, Lakeside-Marblehead.  You can pick the size of your plot, large or small.  Planting of seeds such as beans, squash, pumpkins and melons should be done by the end of April if possible.  The ground is plowed and ready to plant.  A water source is nearby.  Bring your own seeds.  Some garden tools are available.
