Danbury Zoning Commission seeks potential member

The Zoning Commission meets at 7 p.m. on the first Wednesday of each month and is responsible for amendments to the zoning resolution and map. To be considered for a board position your residence of record must be Danbury Township. An application for appointed positions is available at the Township Zoning Department or at www.danburytownship.com. Applications should be returned to the Zoning Inspector. Currently there is an opening for an alternate position on the Zoning Commission.

Visitors Bureau installs new board members

The Ottawa County Visitors Bureau Board of Trustees is pleased to announce its new officers for 2013. Serving as President is Greg Peiffer, President & GM of Ottawa Broadcasting (WPCR, WPIB). Vice President is Linda Aigler from AAA Northwest Ohio. Secretary is Allen Cabral, who owns several vacation rental properties in the area. Treasurer is Nicole DeFreitas who recently opened her own business, DeFreitas Events & Travel. The Immediate Past President is Kim Kaufman, Director of Black Swamp Bird Observatory.

Ottawa County Board of DD names Groscost as Community Employment Coordinator

Sue Groscost was hired in Dec. 2012 by the Ottawa County Board of Developmental Disabilities (OCBDD) as a Community Employment Coordinator. A Community Employment Coordinator is responsible for finding job openings in the community for people served by the board. Sue will be doing job placement, training and/or coaching and follow up to ensure both employer and employee satisfaction.

OCTA offers senior citizens free trips

If you use OCTA for your transportation needs, Ottawa County Senior Resources along with the Ottawa County Transportation Agency (OCTA) will once again be able to provide free trips for eligible seniors (you must be 60 years of age or older). To obtain free trips, complete a registration form from either Senior Resources or your local Senior Center. Forms can be returned to Senior Resources, your local Senior Center or OCTA.

Christmas tree and light recycling

To recycle your live Christmas trees, remove all decorations and tinsel.

Danbury Township: Drop trees at the fenced area behind the Township Hall garage

Village of Marblehead: Trees will be picked up at the curb through the month of January.

Village of Oak Harbor: Place trees at the curb for pickup through the month of January.

Port Clinton: Trees will be collected at the curb through January 16.

Lowe’s stores accept used Christmas lights for recycling, as well as compact fluorescent bulbs and re-chargeable batteries
