Columbus ships Pinta and Nina to land in Lorain

On Friday, August 8, the Pinta and the Nina, replicas of Columbus’ ships, will open in Lorain.  The ships will be docked at the Black River Landing, 421 Black River Lane, until their departure early Tuesday morning August 12.

The Nina was built completely by hand and without the use of power tools.  Archaeology magazine called the ship “the most historically correct Columbus replica ever built.”  The Pinta was recently built in Brazil to accompany the Nina on all of her travels.  She is a larger version of the archetypal caravel.  Historians consider the caravel the Space Shuttle of the fifteenth century.

Tall Ship prints for purchase

Located below is a gallery containing prints that we have of the Battle of Lake Erie Bicentennial celebration reenactment. Each photo has a photo number in the description of the photo to make it easier to order. All prints are 8x10. Prints can be picked up at the Beacon office or mailed to the purchaser for an additional price.

Tall Ships Opening Ceremony

On Friday, Aug. 30 at 11:30 the Opening Ceremony was held celebrating the Victory of Master Commandant Oliver Hazard Perry in the Battle of Lake Erie. Many spectators were in attendance for the ceremony which was held in front of the Tall Ships Pathfinder and Playfair at Waterworks Park near Jefferson Street Pier.
