Ottawa County represented in Special Olympics

The Ottawa County Board of DD competed in the Special Olympics games in Columbus on June 27-29.  Cheryl Bartus won bronze in bowling, Jeromy Bellamy won silver in bowling, and Heather Blausey won bronze in bowling.  A special thank you to Civilian Marksmanship Program for sponsoring the banner for the opening ceremony.

Torch Run lights up downtown Port Clinton

Residents and supporters lined the streets in downtown Port Clinton Sunday, June 22, for the leg of the Ohio Law Enforcement Torch Run for the Special Olympics. This is the third year for the event after a 20 year break in our area. The run went from Jefferson Street Pier, to Fourth Street, Fourth to Madison and ended up at the Knights of Columbus on Perry Street.

14 Special Olympic athletes from Ottawa County participated in the Torch Run along with 5 law enforcement officers and 3 200th Red Horse members. There were also civilians that joined the run along the route.

Community invited to show support during Special Olympics Torch Run

The Ottawa County Board of D.D.’s Special Olympics Team will be participating in the Torch Run Sunday, June 22. The torch will be carried by a combination of law enforcement and Special Olympic athletes throughout the state of Ohio and will end in Columbus for the State Summer games.  

The first leg of the race will be at Put-In-Bay starting at 2 p.m. by the Miller Ferry. There will be a parade through the main streets and conclude at the Boardwalk Restaurant.  The second leg of the race will start at the Port Clinton Jefferson Street Dock at 5 p.m. and continue to 4th Street, Madison Street and throughout downtown Port Clinton and conclude at the Port Clinton Knights of Columbus #1750. 

The public is invited to support your local Special Olympics Athletes by lining the Put-In-Bay route at 2 p.m. or the Port Clinton route at 5 p.m.  Help us cheer on these local athletes as they make their way to Columbus!  If you are interested in volunteering or running in this event, please contact Amy Cantu at (567) 262-3122.
