Gardner named outstanding legislator by PCSAO

The state association of county child welfare agencies named Sen. Randy Gardner (R-Bowling Green) one of four 2014 Outstanding Legislators of the Year at a luncheon today in Columbus.

Public Children Services Association of Ohio recognized Gardner for his leadership in securing an additional $20 million for child and adult protective services in the state’s mid-biennium budget for fiscal year 2015. Gardner joined fellow Sen. Larry Obhof (R-Medina) and Reps. David Hall (R-Millersburg) and Dorothy Pelanda (R-Marysville) in accepting the awards. “We couldn’t choose just two this year as each one has been phenomenal in addressing needs of the child welfare system,” PCSAO’s Director of Policy and Government Affairs Gayle Channing Tenenbaum said.

Bird Observatory teams up with Senator Gardner to designate Bird Ohio Day

On April 22, members of the Black Swamp Bird Observatory (BSBO) staff, along with three Ohio Young Birders Club (OYBC) members and their families, traveled to Columbus, Ohio to accept the official resolution designating May 10 as the first annual Bird Ohio Day. The resolution was initiated and drafted by Black Swamp Bird Observatory and sponsored by Senator Randy Gardner. The Resolution was adopted by the Ohio State Senate on March 20. The resolution was also sponsored by Representative Chris Redfern and Representative Mike Dovilla, and was adopted by the House on April 2.

The Bird Ohio Day resolution encourages teachers to incorporate birds into their lesson plans; encourages all citizens of the state of Ohio to spend time outside enjoying the spectacle of bird migration through our state; calls attention to the economic impact of bird tourism in Ohio; and urges all citizens to be better stewards of the habitats migratory birds rely on for their survival.
