It’s that time of year to clean out the gutters, start mowing the lawn and look forward to warm weather. Spring is the start of many activities in the Village of Marblehead and around the area. Within the village, we have seen change in the business environment over the winter with the retirement of Ben and Wendy Richmond. After decades of success, we all wish Ben and Wendy many more enjoying their retirement. With this departure has brought new opportunities. The former gallery building is now the home to Cruisin' Tunes Endless Summer. Another new business in the village is Sumthin’ Fishy serving Lake Erie Perch located next to McCallum Gallery.
With all of the changes within the last couple of months, Village Council welcomed Denise Ventrone from the Ottawa County Improvement Corp. at the April 26 meeting to hear what OCIC does and how the village and local businesses can better utilize services. From business retention, training and employment to low-interest loans, OCIC provides many services you and your business might utilize. For information, contact one of your Council members.
Along with spring and warmer weather comes construction and street projects. Currently the Streets Committee is working hard to drive every street and determine what projects are of the highest priority and will fall within the budget set for FY-2012. Every effort is being made to utilize resources to do the most good for village residents.
May begins the true kickoff to events and activities for residents and tourist alike. On Saturday, May 12, with the opening of the Lakeside Daisy (Colleen “Casey” Taylor & Ruth E. Fiscus) State Nature Preserve and the Marblehead Bank 5K run/walk. This year on Monday, May 28, the Village of Marblehead will once again observe Memorial Day, a day of remembering the men and women who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces.
As always, if you have questions about what is happening in the village please contact anyone from Council and get involved. We wish you a safe and prosperous season!
