The United Way fundraiser Gem Beach Rocks celebrated its seventh year of rocking on Saturday, August 16. This year the fundraiser had a 50/50 raffle, t-shirt sales, food vendors, a Lake Erie Adventure Play pop-up playground, four bands and lots of fun. The four bands that performed were the Lounge Lizards, Naked Bacon Band, The Reese Dailey Band (who arrived by boat) and the Homewreckers.
Last year the event raised roughly $25,000 for the United Way of Ottawa County.
When asked if this was the last year for Gem Beach Rocks, Director Chris Galvin said, “We don’t believe it! Every year the Grummel family decides, they are the sponsors for the event. We hear that everyone loves the event and that they want us to come back next year.”
Gem Beach Rocks will live on.
Co- emcees for the event were John Schaffner, publisher of The Beacon, and Judge Kathleen Giesler of the Ottawa County Probate Court.
“This event wouldn’t be possible without the wonderful volunteers that help set up, run and clean up,” said Galvin. “It also couldn’t run smoothly without the organizational skills of Kristen Gerwin.”
