Marblehead Village Square: Marblehead Peninsula Lions Club

The Lions Club is currently preparing for the 22nd annual Lions Club Perch Festival on Saturday, Aug. 23, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at James Park. The money earned from this festival is returned to the community through club projects.

The tentative schedule this year has the grand parade starting at 10 a.m. with an opening ceremony at 11:15 a.m. At 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. John Petz will present his magic show. Don Lombardi’s 3rd Degree Band will play from 1-4 p.m. K96 will be doing a live broadcast from the festival from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Lafarge Quarry tours will be available at 11:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m., 1:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. Life Flight will also be making an appearance at 4 p.m. with a landing at the festival. Tickets can be purchased for the drawing raffle before the festival by contacting any Lions Club member. The grand prize for the raffle is $2014. The Grand Marshall of this year’s festival will be the Danbury Athletic Boosters.

The Marblehead Peninsula Lions Club was organized in 1984 and their motto is “We serve”. They have had made major donations to the community. Some examples include: the construction of the Danbury High School concession stand, Danbury food pantry, Holiday Bureau, Danbury Township Off Leash Dog Park, Danbury cheerleaders, James Park playground equipment, Ottawa County Top Ten Banquet, Otterbein North Shore, equipment for Ex Libris library and other organizations. Currently there are 38 members of the club.

The club also holds a pancake breakfast to raise funds to benefit people with special needs. Eye glass drop off boxes are provided at the Marblehead Bank and our local VFW for needy persons in our community. There are also 21 donation cans at local businesses for the Lions’ Sight Princess Contest.

The Lions Club meets at the Marblehead VFW Hall on the second and fourth Thursdays of each month at 6:30 p.m. John Endglebeck is the current president of the Lions Club and can be reached at 419-798-5735.
