On Saturday, June 14, thirty three teams traveled to Put-in-Bay to participate in the Amazing Raise to benefit Joyful Connections and Ottawa County CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates). The thirty three teams, which more than doubled the number of last year’s fifteen teams, were made up of 160 people. The teams traveled the island to eight different locations and at each location they were asked to complete a task to earn a clue for their next destination.
In addition to the eight main destinations, there were master challenges including having teams ask for donations from residents with the most cash raised getting a prize.
The top finishing team was Nautical Nuisance, led by team captain Emily Dunfee, who finished just over one hour and forty minutes. In second place was FUNraisers, led by team captain Chris Galvin. The Ratchet Squad, with team captain Jennie Cramer, led the effort for fundraising by coaxing visitors and islanders to donate $205.
Locations in the event included The Boardwalk, Frosty’s, Perry’s Cave and the Keys. Challenges included swinging a washer on a string and trying to hook it on a hook, digging for coins in the sand with a spoon while blindfolded, running a three legged race, throwing a ping pong ball into a wine glass and eating a sugarless cayenne pepper filled brownie.
There was also a trivia challenge on the Miller Ferry on the way to the island which was won by The Incredibles captained by Diane Kurfis.
