Lakeside Chautauqua kicks off 2014 Chautauqua summer season entertainment

Lakeside Chautauqua’s Hoover Auditorium, one of the cultural hot spots on Lake Erie, hosts a variety of musicians, comedians, illusionists, dancers and bands nightly. Daily fun and family entertainment await guests of all ages. Visit for a complete list of the 2014 entertainers.

Purchasing a Daily or Season Chautauqua Pass grants access to all evening shows in Hoover Auditorium at no extra charge. Guests must present Chautauqua Passes upon entering Hoover Auditorium.

A Daily Chautauqua Pass is $19.75 for adults and $13.75 for youth (ages 12-18) per day. Children under age 12 and guests over the age of 90 are always free. Chautauqua Passes may be purchased in advance at or upon entering the gates of Lakeside Chautauqua. 

To park on the grounds, a Daily Auto Pass is required for $8.25 per day (shuttle service available). Free, limited parking is available at Danbury High School (no shuttle service). Please note that seats for Hoover Auditorium performances are given on a first-come, first-served basis.

Saturday, June 21

8:15 p.m. Hoover Auditorium (115 Third Street)

Natalie MacMaster, Donnell Leahy & Family, “Masters of the Fiddle”

Award-winning fiddler, Natalie MacMaster, will be joined for the first time on stage with husband Donnell Leahy and their children for a powerhouse performance of Celtic hits. The concert, titled “Masters of the Fiddle,” will feature traditional Celtic music, fiddle playing and step dancing, while integrating a variety of jigs and reels.

MacMaster, who is originally from Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, has worked for three straight decades to perfect her fiddling career. Since the beginning of her career, MacMaster has completed 11 albums and collaborated with a variety of world renowned artists, including Yo-Yo Ma.

Family Night in the Park: Honeytown

This week's Family Night in the Park concert will feature Honeytown, a four-piece blend of folk, rock ‘n’ roll and progressive bluegrass music from Kidron, Ohio. Honeytown is known for their varied instrumentation, ranging from banjo and fiddle, to trashcans and other unexpected instruments. Honeytown continued to develop their folk-bluegrass sound until January 2012, when the group began to reinvent themselves. Their sets now include more original rock songs and a cappella.  Upbeat and eclectic, the group has played conventions, weddings, house concerts and coffeehouses.

Monday, June 23

Hoover Movie Night: “Frozen”

The Academy Award-winning 2013 animated film “Frozen,” starring Kristen Bell, Idina Menzel and Johnathan Goff, will be this week’s Hoover Movie Night. The movie will take place at 7 p.m. in Hoover Auditorium. Please note change in time. Lakeside is encouraging audience members to dress up as their favorite character from the film and sing along.

Tuesday, June 24

11 a.m. Farmers’ Market (Walnut Avenue)

Cardinal Chorale

The Cardinal Chorale will perform a special concert during the Farmers’ Market at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 24, on Walnut Avenue, between Second and Third Streets.

The Cardinal Chorale is a special ensemble of the All-Ohio State Fair Youth Choir that has been entertaining audiences at the Ohio State Fair, as well as at several conferences, conventions and institutions for almost 20 years.

A complimentary 90-minute Shopping/Dining Pass is available at the dates during the Chautauqua summer season (June 21-Sept. 1, 2014) to attend the Farmers’ Market every Tuesday and Friday. The pass must be stamped by a Farmers’ Market vendor or a Lakeside Chautauqua Administration Office employee in order to exit Lakeside. Ask a gate attendant for more details.

Pushcart Players ‘Happily Ever After: A Cinderella Story’

The Pushcart Players, an award-winning, non-profit, and professional touring theatre company specializing in arts in education for children, will return to the Hoover Auditorium stage to present “Happily Ever After: A Cinderella Story.” An updated version of the classic fairytale, “Cinderella,” the Pushcart Players will provide a performance made for family audiences and young viewers.

Wednesday, June 25

8:15 p.m. Hoover Auditorium (115 Third Street)

Michel Shirtz in Concert

Michael Shirtz returns to Hoover Auditorium with the Pete Ford Trio for a new show, "Michael Shirtz in Concert.” The concert will feature Shirtz singing and playing his favorite jazz selections and the music that has defined him as a budding jazz scat singer. A native of Marquette, Mich., Shirtz is an active jazz singer, pianist, composer, music educator and choral conductor.

He urrently serves as Lakeside Chautauqua’s Worship Music Coordinator. In this position, he is responsible for planning and conducting the music for Hoover Community Worship Services at 10:30 a.m. Sundays in Hoover Auditorium.

Thursday, June 26

8:15 p.m. Hoover Auditorium (115 Third Street)

Boston Brass

The Boston Brass big sound will perform their show, “And the Nominees are...” in Hoover Auditorium this week. The group offers everything from exciting classical arrangements to lively jazz standards that captivate audiences of all ages.

This Lakeside performance will feature epic moments in music, recognizing composers and works in musical achievement from the world of orchestra, opera, ballet, Broadway, jazz, the big screen and more. The first half of “And the Nominees are...” will feature the band members’ most-loved virtuosic musical selections and provide insight on these captivating, time-honored favorites. The second half of the show calls for audience participation.

Members of the audience will be given the chance to decide the second half of the program via ballot boxes in the Hoover Auditorium lobby.

The Brett Family

Known as one of Branson’s absolute must-see shows, The Brett Family will be returning to Lakeside Chautauqua’s Hoover Auditorium stage this week. A captivating display of music, dance and lights, The Brett Family’s performance will feature everything from original songs written by the family, to modern hits and timeless classics in a wide variety of genres.
