After being located at the Knights of Columbus Hall for the past eight years, the St. Vincent DePaul food pantry will be moving to 301 W. 2nd Street, Port Clinton. The new location is adjacent to the Portage Resale Center. Ann Heckerd, St. Vincent DePaul president said that the move would help the organization better serve the needs of its clients and will take effect on June 28.
St. Vincent DePaul has operated a food pantry in Port Clinton since 1984. It began in a garage located at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and later moved to the basement of the church’s school. With the need for more space, the organization moved to the Knights of Columbus Hall in 2006. At the present time, the food pantry provides food for 150 to 175 families and seniors each month at their food pantry.
The food pantry depends on various churches, organizations, individuals and businesses for donations. “The Port Clinton Kiwanis Club, the Knights of Columbus, and First Energy have been especially generous.” said Ms. Heckerd. Food is either purchased from or donated by the Northwest Ohio Food Bank, Seagate, Aldi, and Kroger.
