Ottawa County Veterans Service Commission welcomes new commissioners

On Jan. 9, the Honorable Judge Winters swore in Thomas L. Cashen III, appointing him to represent the American Legion, and Ronald E. Distel, appointing him as a Member-at-Large, on the Ottawa County Veterans Service Commission Board of Commissioners. 

Cashen was appointed to fill a one-year term. He is a Persian Gulf War Veteran who served honorably in the U.S. Navy.

This is Distel’s second term. He began representing the veteran community as a Member-at-Large in January, 2009. As a strong advocate of veterans, throughout his 5-year tenure he has been a voice for the 3,600 veterans and their dependents in Ottawa County and was actively involved in the celebration of county veterans' accomplishments and in the commemoration of their sacrifices. Distel is a Vietnam War Veteran who served honorably in the U.S. Air Force.
