Camp Perry Open brings in visitors from all around the country Featured

60 shot matches, relay 2 performing on Saturday

Driving through the parking lot at the 10m range Saturday, Jan. 18 at Camp Perry one couldn’t help but notice all the license plates from different states; Missouri, Arkansas, Rhode Island, etc. When going about our day to day activities in the area, it’s easy to forget the assets our area has that as locals we may take for granted. Shooters and sportsman gather from across the country to utilize the ranges all year round at Camp Perry.

Famously known for the National Rifle Matches which are held in the summer, Camp Perry is also host to other competitions that make use of the indoor facilities that are offered. This past weekend, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, the 10m Range was home to the Camp Perry Open.

“For this competition we had 145 juniors sign up and we have 202 total participants just for today (Saturday),” said Brad Donoho, CMP Program Coordinator.

The Camp Perry Open this year included competition events and a junior clinic that was held at the CMP Marksmanship Center. The categories for the competition events were: 3x20 junior air rifle, 3x20 junior team match, men’s and women’s air rifle, men’s and women’s air pistol, 60 shot tem matches (which was new in 2014) and the super final. Each match was fired on Megalink Electronic Targets with compressed air and CO2 cylinder weapons.
