The Compassionate Friends (TCF) of Ottawa County participated in the 17th Annual Compassionate Friends Worldwide Candle Lighting. Around the world families and friends who have suffered the loss of a child lit candles for one hour to honor the memory of those lost. The event is believed to be the largest mass candle lighting in the world.
“For those whose light burnt brightly yet briefly;” President of TCF of Ottawa County Roseann Hickman said before the ceremony, “we shine these lights in memory of our children.”
Before family and friends lit their candles, an alter was lit with five candles each representing different stages: grief, courage, memory (in joy and tears), love and hope. Each person in attendance lit a candle and as they did they said aloud the person they were remembering. In closing, Hickman reminded those in attendance that they are not alone in their grief.
TCF of Ottawa County meet the first Monday of each month at Peace Lutheran Church at 7 p.m. For more information on TCF visit www.thecompassionatefriends.org or Roseann at 419-308-4690.
