Area veterans are invited to participate in a Veterans’ Stand Down event on Wednesday, November 20, at the American Legion hall, 2000 Buckland Ave., Fremont.
Aimed at connecting veterans who may be experiencing difficulties in housing with appropriate services, the event begins at 10 a.m. A lunch will be provided for all who attend, and the event ends at 1 p.m. Veterans who attend the event will be asked to show their DD214 papers.
Information booths at the event will feature services in the following areas: medical, financial, employment, housing, veterans’ benefits, notary public services, and several other social services. Several other local community service-providers will be available to assist with a variety of needs.
The Stand Down event is aimed at veterans from Erie, Huron, Ottawa, Sandusky, Wood, and Seneca counties.
In addition, since the funding is aimed at services for those veterans struggling to make ends meet, donations are being accepted to provide services to other veterans who may attend.
The event is funded by the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs and local sponsors who have donated funds to help the veterans. Those sponsors include Ottawa County Safety Council, Sandusky Co Safety Council, Pemberville American Legion Post 183, Green Bay Packaging, Inc.
Hospice of Memorial Hospital, Trainco, Inc., Ottawa County Veteran Services, Materion, Brush Wellman, Morgan Advanced Materials, Maria & Ben Melssen, Clyde VFW Post 3343, and Sue Risner of Stone Fossil Studio.
