Port Clinton’s first Christkindl Markt Featured

We believe that the health and welfare of our communities is dependent upon the success of the arts. Art is not a frivolous endeavor, it is essential to the human creative spirit.

The history and traditions of Christmas in Germany are rich and varied.  Some of our more popular songs such as "Silent Night" originated in Germany.  The name we often use for Santa Claus, Kris Kringle, was created from "Christ Child".  From this evolved one of the best loved traditions in Germany, the Christkindl Markt, an outdoor Christmas Market which is an annual festival in German culture.

The Greater Port Clinton Area Arts Council presents its first Christkindl Markt which will be celebrated on Saturday, Dec. 7, from   10 a.m.  to 4p.m.   in historic downtown Port Clinton.  As is the custom in Germany's small villages to its distinctive large cities, the Markt will consist of artists and artisans offering their works for sale in individually decorated stalls on Madison Street.  Musicians and food vendors are invited to share holiday music and tantalizing treats of the holiday’s season for this exciting family event. Warm beverages, food, entertainment, arts, crafts and holiday gifts will be found in abundance.

There is no booth rent for this festival, only a bag of non-perishable food items for the local food bank.
