Oak Harbor High School is hosting this year’s Ottawa County Relay for Life. The event starts at 6 p.m. on Friday, June 7, and goes until 12 p.m. on Saturday, June 8. The Relay for Life is more than just doing laps around the track; it’s about remembering those who have lost their battle with cancer, it’s about bringing awareness to the disease, and about empowering those still fighting to survive.
The first lap at the Relay is called the survivor’s lap, where those who have beat cancer can celebrate with each other and get cheered on by spectators. There is also a luminaria ceremony on Friday evening where candles are lit in personalized bags remembering those who have lost their fight with cancer and honoring those who fought and won or those who are still fighting.
This is a family friendly event that also offers games for children, a DJ and bands, food vendors, raffles, prizes and more. There are 15 teams rallying in the Ottawa County Relay for Life. To donate or to learn more visit www.relayforlife.org/ottawaco.
