On May 2, a beautiful spring day, The National Day of Prayer was observed on the courthouse lawn in downtown Port Clinton. Carol Fox organized the service that has been observed annually since President Harry Truman signed it into law in 1952.

Participating pastors, left to right: Peter Dodd, Grace Baptist; Jeanne Gay, Firelands Presbyterian; Chris Young, St. Paul Lutheran, Danbury; Jim Lehman, St. John Lutheran, Port Clinton; Bruce Bachelor-Glader, Trinity United Methodist; Carolyn Joseph, Church of the Nazarene; Deron Fourman, Bible Methodist Church.

Gathered under the blooming trees, surrounded by the flowers of spring, The Immaculate Conception Catholic Church School first grade choir, accompanied on the accordion by Greg Fox, performed “Be the Heart, the Hand of God” and “Like a Child Rests”. Area pastors offered prayers for the world, nation, state, county, city, community, schools, families and our troops. All present joined in singing “America the Beautiful”, “America” and  “God Bless America”. The service concluded with all joining hands and praying The Lord’s Prayer.
