Terra announces next president

WebsterTerra State Community College’s governing body has unanimously selected current Vice President for Student and Administrative Affairs, Dr. Jerome Webster, as the sixth president of the College, according to newly elected Terra Board of Trustee Chair Carl E. Koebel.

“As a Board, we have observed Dr. Webster demonstrate his leadership capabilities and knowledge of higher education issues that face community colleges today,” Koebel said, citing Webster’s experience and innovative ideas. “His focus of keeping the college as a student centered institution has been key in revamping student affairs and enrollment services.  His business knowledge has been integral in restructuring the human resources function of the College.  And, his vigilance in strengthening the relationships with our collective bargaining units has been very important to the board.  But more importantly, his visionary acumen and the critical role he has played in structuring the College’s Planning and Institutional Effectiveness Council and the Vision 2016 Strategic Plan was crucial to our decision in selecting him for the president’s position.”
Dr. Webster a resident of Fremont, will succeed Dr. Marsha S. Bordner, who has announced her upcoming retirement. He will begin serving a three-year contract effective July 1.
Webster received his bachelor’s degree in business administration with a concentration in human resources from Olivet College in Michigan.  His career has included a position at the University of Toledo, where he spent 10 years working in various positions in university housing.  After completing his master’s degree in educational technology and human resources development, Dr. Webster entered the doctoral program in higher education administration at the University of Toledo.
He was awarded a fellowship with the distinguished Community College Presidential Fellowship Program, offered jointly by the University of Toledo and five area community colleges in northwest Ohio and southeastern Michigan.  The fellowship led him to his next position as Dean of Student Services at Terra State Community College.  He served as Dean of Students at Lawrence Technological University in Southfield, Mich., as well as as Dean of Student Affairs with Cuyahoga Community College in Cleveland.  In August 2008, he accepted the position of Vice President for Student and Administrative Affairs at Terra, where he has continued to be active in various state and regional organizations in higher education.
“I am humbled and truly honored to be given this opportunity to serve the Board of Trustees, the college, our students, and the community in this new role,” said Dr. Webster.  “I have big shoes to fill following Dr. Bordner’s leadership, but I can’t begin to tell you all how excited I am.”
