Ida Rupp Public Library launches new financial education programs

Ida Rupp Public Library announces that access to better financial and investor information and educational events are coming to Port Clinton with the launch of Smart investing@your library®.

Ida Rupp Public Library was one of 14 public libraries nationwide selected for the grant by the American Library Association (ALA) and the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) Investor Education Foundation as part of Smart investing@your library®. This prestigious grant will help to build the capacity of Ida Rupp Public Library to provide effective, unbiased financial and investor education to the community.

With the funding, Ida Rupp Public Library will partner with United Way, the Port Clinton City School District, St. Vincent de Paul Society, Kidsville News Northern Ohio, Catawba Island Club, Lakeview Estates and Firelands Presbyterian Church. They will teach low-income children and their parents financial fundamentals through hands-on summer activities and workshops and classes throughout the year. Programming will address earning money, needs vs. wants, banking fundamentals, budgeting basics, establishing savings goals and similar basic topics. Throughout the non-summer months, the library will sponsor additional activities that bring parents, children and teens together and model strategies that parents can use to teach their children good money habits and skills.

“This generous grant from the FINRA Investor Education Foundation couldn't have come at a better time,” said Deborah Loiacono, Director. “Smart investing@your library® allows us to meet a critical need for people to have information they can trust to help them arrive at a brighter financial future. We look forward to using our grant to create innovative programs that help people in our community prosper.”
