State Senator Randy Gardner (R- Bowling Green) has been tapped by Senate President Keith Faber (R- Celina) to serve as Chairman of the newly-created Finance Subcommittee on Education. The subcommittee will have responsibility for college and university budget issues as well as elementary and secondary funding.
Gardner’s district includes Erie, Ottawa, Wood and parts of Fulton and Lucas counties.
“It is an honor to serve as chairman of the Senate’s Finance Subcommittee on Education,” Gardner said. “Education is especially important to the people I represent, and critical to Ohio’s future.”
Gardner, who was also appointed to the Education Committee, brings extensive education experience to the Senate, having taught high school history and government classes and serving as chair of the House Finance Higher Education Subcommittee during the 129th General Assembly.
In addition, Gardner will serve as a member of the powerful Senate Finance Committee – which is responsible for helping craft the state budget – as well as the Workforce & Economic Development Committee, the Transportation Committee, and the Medicaid, Health & Human Services Committee.
A veteran lawmaker, Gardner returned to the Ohio Senate this year after serving five years in the Ohio House of Representatives. He previously served in the Ohio Senate from 2001-2008.
