For the third year in a row Patrick Edwards of Columbus was the turkey on the Saturday after Thanksgiving at the Catawba Island Club. Edwards won the Jessica Schenk Turkey Memorial 5K Turkey Chase and the right to wear the turkey costume again next year.

“I grew up with the Schenks, and this is one race I will be in every year,” said Edwards.
The Jessie Schenk Memorial Turkey Chase was started in 2010 to benefit the Jessica Schenk Memorial Scholar/Athlete Scholarship. This annual award is given in loving memory of Jessica Schenk who was an outstanding student athlete at Port Clinton High School. Jessie graduated in 2008 and went on to pursue a degree in physical education. During her time at West Virginia University and Kent State University, Jessie continued to pursue her main passion: running.
Mike Schenk, Jessica’s father and manager of CIC, said it was particularly gratifying that so many turned out on such a cold and blustery day on Catawba.  “I am very pleased with the turnout of over 200 runners and walkers, and especially with the return of so many regulars,” said Schenk.

The division winners were:
Overall and Male 13-49: Patrick Edwards, with a time of 17:29.
Female 13-49: Ashley Waddington
Male 12 and under: Patrick Monnin
Female 12 and under: Brigid Madden
