It’s time again to begin the search for the new Apple Festival Royalty Court.
The Royalty Court will reign for a period of one year. They will have the opportunity to travel, learn about other communities in our state, meet many new friends and gain experience speaking in public as they share with others information about the Apple Festival.
The Apple Festival Royalty Court consists of an Apple Queen (Grades 9-11), Apple Princess (Grades 6-8), Johnny Appleseed and Apple Blossom (both Grades K-1). All court members must be residents of the Benton-Carroll-Salem School District. Past Royalty members who have held a title (this excludes runners-up) may not compete for that particular title again. They may, however, compete for a different title.
All contestants must complete an application, sign a policy and procedure slip, and submit a wallet-sized photo to the Oak Harbor Chamber of Commerce by 4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 7. The applications will be reviewed by the judges and used as an aide during the private interview at the preliminary contest. Late applications will not be accepted.
The Preliminary Contest will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Sept.16, at the Community Markets VFW Memorial Hall, 251 W. Main Street, Oak Harbor. This contest will determine the new Johnny Appleseed and Apple Blossom as well as the Queen and Princess Finalists who will compete at the Apple Festival. Contestants should dress in nice, age-appropriate clothing. Formals, jeans and tennis shoes are not permitted. The Preliminary Contest applicants will be judged on a scale of 1 to 5 in the following categories: introduction, speaking, personality, appearance and stage presence. The 2012-2013 Apple Festival Royalty Court will consist of a Queen and Queen Runner-Up, Princess and Princess Runner-Up, Apple Blossom and Johnny Appleseed.
