Barbershop Quartet playing in Marblehead

Rip Chord, a Barbershop Quartet from Indiana, will be singing in Marblehead at two locations Sunday, Sept. 2. The group will perform at 8:45 a.m. worship at St. John Lutheran Church, 117 Stone St., then at the 10:30 a.m. service at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 541 Church Road. They will be singing “Yes, Indeed,” “Gospel Medley” and “Irish Blessing.” Rip Chord will continue their musical variety during a potluck picnic at St. Paul following worship around 11:30 a.m.
Community members and vacationers are welcome to all events. Rip Chord is a former medalist from the Cardinal District.
The quartet includes: Lead — Phil Griggs, Bass — Joe Schmidt, Tenor — Kurt Vogel and Baritone — Bob Kihlken, son of Ginny and Dave Kihlken, Lakeside-Marblehead.

Danbury Township Trustees — Aug. 8 meeting

At the regular meeting of the Danbury Township Trustees held Aug. 8, the following business was conducted:
• Road Superintendent Brett Waldron reported the department had one service at the cemetery; the first draft of the record retention schedule was completed; the athletic complex is changing over from baseball and softball to football and soccer; the crosswalk on Erie Beach was painted; the flashing “cross traffic does not stop” signs were installed on the “stop ahead” signs in both directions on Port Clinton Eastern Road; road signs are being inventoried to be brought up to the new reflectivity standards; a new snowplow truck is being researched; and brush has been ground into mulch and is ready for distribution beginning Aug. 13.

Polka, food and more at Halupki Festival

It’s Summertime, and in Marblehead, folks will soon smell the cabbage rolls a-cookin’ and hear the lively sounds of polka music at the 56th annual Halupki Festival. The event, a celebration of Carpatho-Russian foods and culture, is presented each year on the third Sunday of August by Holy Assumption Orthodox Church, 114 E. Main St. (Ohio 163), Marblehead. This year’s event takes place on Sunday, Aug. 19.
The day’s activities begin with Divine Liturgy in the historic church at 9:30 a.m. The choir of SS. Peter and Paul Orthodox Church in Lorain will sing. The parish family extends an invitation to one and all to join with them in worship.
