Stein Hospice’s annual 5K Regatta Run will be held Saturday, June 30, beginning and ending at Battery Park in downtown Sandusky. Walkers are also welcome.
The run starts at 8:30 a.m., with registration beginning at 7:30 a.m. Runners can pre-register by visiting www.steinhospice.org and either downloading a brochure or signing up online. Register by June 22 to be guaranteed a T-shirt.
As a part of the bicentennial celebration of the Battle of Lake Erie, the Council of the Village of Put-in-Bay is sponsoring a flag design contest. The winning design will become the official flag of the Village of Put-in-Bay.
Made famous by Oliver Hazard Perry’s statement: “We have met the enemy and they are ours,” the Battle of Lake Erie was fought on Sept. 10, 1813, near the Village of Put-in-Bay. Before the battle, Commodore Perry used Put-in-Bay harbor as a safe anchorage for his vessels and for the captured British vessels after the battle.
Greg Deerhake, a son of the Marblehead Peninsula, and Magruder Hospital were honored Thursday evening at the 75th annual meeting of the Marblehead Peninsula Chamber of Commerce at Catawba Island Club.
Deerhake was honored with the D.S. Kirkpatrick Award named for one of the original founders of the Chamber and former publisher of the Peninsula News. The award is to honor the dedication and unselfish devotion to the principles of service to the community through the Chamber of Commerce.
