Washburn joins United Way in Ottawa County Challenge Match

Joan Washburn has joined the Bohlander Challenge Gift in honor of Ron Case for United Way in Ottawa County. Joan will offer her training session, “Advancing on the Playing Field of Life” on Monday, Feb. 25, from 6:30 - 7:30 p.m. at The Sutton Center, 1854 E Perry St., Port Clinton. The suggested donation of $10 will be given to United Way. For every dollar raised, Tom Bohlander will match it.

Wednesday Bible Study at Vineyard

Wednesday, Feb. 27, Pastor Kurt Borows will lead a Bible Study at The Vineyards, beginning at 10:30 a.m. His topic, “Ultimately Life or Death,” will center upon the Sunday, March 3, Bible readings at most area churches.

A catered lunch will be served at 12 noon. There is a cost of $6 for the lunch. This will be followed by a 12:30 p.m. worship service led by pastor Harry Hunt, Erie Shores Assembly of God.

The public is invited to attend any or all the Lenten services. No reservations are needed. The series continues every Wednesday in Lent, ending March 27. Phone The Vineyard office at 419-797-3100 for further information. 

McClanahan earns Eagle Scout Award

Christopher Lee McClanahan, age 15, of Oak Harbor, has earned the highest advancement award the Boy Scouts of America offers to Scouts, the Eagle Scout Award. He earned the award on Oct. 3, 2012, and will be recognized in a ceremony on Saturday, Feb. 23, at 3 p.m. at the Eagle’s Nest hall at 210 Jefferson Street in Oak Harbor.

To earn the Eagle Scout rank, a Boy Scout must fulfill requirements in the areas of leadership, service, and outdoor skills. Only about 5% of Boy Scouts earn the Eagle Scout rank. Christopher earned 21 merit badges and successfully completed a community service project to earn his Eagle Scout Award.

Graffe String Quartet and pianist Otaki to perform at Firelands

World-renowned pianist Michiko Otaki will join the Graffe String Quartet from the Czech Republic in a concert presented by the Musical Arts Series at Firelands on Friday, Feb. 22 at 7:30 p.m. at Firelands Presbyterian Church, 2626 E. Harbor Rd. in Port Clinton.

Winner of the Czech Chamber Music Society Prize, the Graffe String Quartet will appear in Port Clinton during their 2012 to 2013 American Tour. They have toured Europe and the United States, winning praise for their youthful presentation and mature playing and will be performing in New York city the week following their local concert.
