Marblehead Village Square

By Councilman Duane Meyers

It’s the time of year to clean out the gutters, start mowing the lawn and look forward to warm weather. Spring is the start of many activities in the Village of Marblehead and around the region.

May begins the true kickoff to events and activities for residents and tourist alike. On Saturday, May 10, will be the opening of the Lakeside Daisy (Colleen "Casey" Taylor & Ruth E. Fiscus) State Nature Preserve and the Marblehead Bank 5K run/walk.

On Monday, May 26, the Village of Marblehead will once again participate with Lakeside Chautauqua in observance of Memorial Day, a day of remembering the men and women who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces.

The 150th anniversary of the American Civil War is upon us. The Civil War sesquicentennial (2011-2015) provides a fresh opportunity for a new generation to rediscover the many ways in which Ohioans played a key role in the war and in which the war, “this mighty scourge”, as Lincoln described it, changed life in Ohio. On April 5, at the group’s annual work day, The Ohio Civil War 150 Advisory Committee awarded The Friends and Descendants of Johnson’s Island Civil War Prison the 2014 Civil War 150 Heritage Award.

As always, if you have questions about what is happening in the village, contact anyone from council and get involved. We wish you a safe and prosperous season.
