Oak Harbor seeks funding for parks system  

The Village of Oak Harbor will approach voters this November to ask the citizens for monies to fund the operations, maintenance and capital improvements to their parks system. Issue 7 will be seeking a 3-mill levy for five years. The parks of the village currently include Veterans Memorial Park, Flat Iron Park and Kraemer Park. Combined they cover over 25 acres and include activities for little league baseball, football, tennis, basketball, sand volleyball, skateboarding, sledding and batting cages. They also provide amenities for family gatherings, BBQ grills and handicapped accessible restrooms. Veterans Memorial and Flat Iron Park offer tributes to the men and women who fought for our country and Kraemer Park offers educational opportunities for local school children on the history of our area via the Log Cabin Committee and its programs.

Oak Harbor K of C family breakfast

On Sunday, October 26, the Oak Harbor Knights of Columbus will be sponsoring an all you can eat sausage gravy and biscuits family breakfast at St. Boniface Catholic Church.  Beginning at 9 a.m., the Knights will be serving a menu including scrambled eggs and ham, homemade rolls, homemade applesauce, coffee, hot chocolate and juice.  

Donation is $6 for adults and children under 12 $3.  Proceeds will benefit Joyful Connections in their mission to provide a healthy, safe and homelike environment where children can interact with family members in a non-judgmental setting.

Joyful Connections hosting Lake Erie Adventure Play

From 1-3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 25, Joyful Connections will host a pop-up playground presented by Lake Erie Adventure Play (LEAP). The event will be held in the fenced in area behind their building at 8200 W. SR 163 in Oak Harbor.

LEAP is a pilot program of United Way in Ottawa County that provides opportunities for kids (and adults) to play in their own chosen ways in and around Ottawa County. Using recyclable materials such as cardboard boxes, plastic containers, fabric, glue and string, children are given the time and space to create and play as they desire.
