wrestling_01.jpgThe Oak Harbor High School Wrestling team finished 2nd at state this year, with Kirk Tank, Keith Witt and Cody Magrum all winning State Championships.  This accomplishment has been years in the making.  The wrestlers have been participating in spring tournaments, summer camps and wrestling in national tournaments since they were in junior high. When the senior and freshman classes were in junior high, the wrestling club sponsored a team to participate in the Middle School duals in Des Moines Iowa.  Some of the wrestlers have wrested at Junior Nationals in Fargo North Dakota, Junior Olympics held in Virginia Beach and Knoxville Tennessee, Middle School Duals held in Ocean City Maryland, Sophomore Nationals held in Pittsburg, Junior Nationals held in Virginia Beach and the Disney Duals held in Orlando.
The Oak Harbor Wrestling Club has helped defer some of the cost to participate in these tournaments.  The club also helps send the high school and Junior high wrestlers to a team camp in the summer.  They fund the biddy wrestling program and help defer the cost of camps for individual biddy wrestlers if funds are available.  The club provides the funds for the high school team to participate in the Ironman Tournament and the Medina Invitational during the wrestling season.  The Ironman Tournament is considered the toughest tournament in the country.  To be the best, you have to wrestle the best.  This year's wrestling team sought out the best wrestlers in the country and that is one of the reasons they were champions.
