During the regular board meeting held March 18, a new method of assessing elementary students was presented by the three B-C-S elementary principals, Mary Ann Widmer, Karen Gruber and Judy Peters.  Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills (DIBELS) is a tool that only requires a one minute test in each subject to assess a student. DIBELS can be used multiple times throughout the school year to ensure each child is receiving appropriate instruction and any necessary intervention. To track results of the DIBELS assessments, the elementary principals are currently taking an on-line course on AIMS WEB, which is a three-tiered progress monitoring system. All elementary classroom teachers will receive training on both DIBELS and AIMS WEB to better address their student needs.
Among other business items, the Board approved the resolution accepting the amounts and rates as determined by the budget commission, authorizing the necessary tax levies, and certifying them to the County Auditor.
The Board will conduct a work session regarding Board relations on Monday, April 21 from 11:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Maumee Bay State Park.  The regular monthly meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 22, at the board office located at 11686 W. SR #163 in Oak Harbor.
