Port Clinton Junior Justin Netherland traveled to Lancaster for the Ohio State High School Athletic Association State Tournament Friday and returned with a 7th place finish.
A total of 96 High School Bowlers competed, 80 from the 16 teams making it to the state Finals, and another 16 from district tournament Competition.
Justin started with a 256 then followed with 230 & 192 for his 678 series at Tiki Lanes.
"Justin had really good practices at home Wednesday and Thursday at Lancaster" said PCHS Coach Bob Black. The lane condition at state called for a deep inside shot to begin with that produced carrydown and a move back to the right while bowling. He did some surface changes to his equipment and matched up pretty good with what he saw. I think this is as sharp as I've ever seen him bowl. He had a split in the 2nd frame of his first frame then followed with 8 strikes in a row. That was his only open frame of the 3 games. The last few frames of the last game the lanes suddenly tightened up again and he couldn't string strikes. he really had a great tournament and we are extremely proud of him. His physical and mental games really improved this season".
