Over 123 seniors of Ottawa County ‘sprung’ into Happiness on Sunday, April
13th with the first of what is hoped to be an annual event. Hosted by the Ottawa
County Senior Activity Committee and sponsored by Walker Family Funeral Homes
and Otterbein North Shore Retirement Living Community, seniors from Ottawa
County and surrounding areas danced to the big band sounds of the “Night
Session” big band at the Community Markets VFW Memorial Hall in Oak Harbor.
Hardly a foot could stop from tapping as Night Session offered an array of epic
big band tunes including ‘Tangerine’ and ‘As Time Goes By.
“We hope to make this Dance an annual event.” stated Jennifer Waldron,
Family Services & Pre-arrangement advisor for Walker Funeral Homes, major
sponsor for the event. “This is a great community event and we are happy to
serve the seniors of our community.
“We are really pleased with the turnout,” added Christine Weigel, Director
of Marketing for Otterbein Northshore, who provided the hors d’ouevres for the
event. “It is just great to see everyone out, having fun and enjoying the
music.”
Walker Family Funeral Homes has taken the sponsorship one step further by
donating all the proceeds of this event to the Ottawa County Senior Levy
fund. Juanita Mills-Persely, Chair of the Ottawa County Senior Activity
Committee hosting the event, was more than pleased with the dance “the Senior
Levy has given this county the opportunity to provide invaluable services to the
seniors of Ottawa County. The dance not only provided an opportunity for
seniors to socialize and be entertained, but it also shows that seniors support
their own cause. It was win-win all the way around.”
.
The Senior Levy helps support Ottawa County Senior Resources in providing a
variety of services to the nearly 9000 seniors in Ottawa County. These services
include, Home Delivered Meals, Options for Independence Home Care, DayBreak
Adult Day Services and support of the six seniors centers scattered across the
county. Through the efforts of programs like these, Senior Resources is able to
provide the seniors of Ottawa County with the resources they need to maintain
their independence for as long as possible.
