On June 19, 2007, the community of Shallotte, N.C. was shocked by an unexpected tragedy.
Thirteen-year-old Andrew Julian Priddy, the son of Randy and Amy Priddy, a former Beacon employee, died suddenly as a result of an ATV accident while visiting his grandparents in Ohio. He had just finished the seventh grade at Shallotte Middle School (SMS).
In remembrance of Andrew, the students of SMS gathered in the school gymnasium last Monday, April 28 at 3:30 p.m. for a memorial celebration. The students and teachers were invited to share memories and stories of Andrew, read poems, play music or do whatever they wanted to honor his life, whether they had been close friends of his or had only met him once or twice.
According to The Brunswick Beacon, Amy said that she hadn't realized that her son had touched so many lives.
"I think this will help with the healing," she said.
