National Nursing Home Week (r) begins on Mother's Day, May 11 and continues until May 17. Many nursing home residents are the people who planted the seeds that have made our community grow stronger. They have been the teachers, the business people, the parents and other central figures who produced all of the good things that we now enjoy. This week gives us a chance to honor these special residents, as well as their families, staff, volunteers, and community.
This year's National Nursing Home Week (r) theme is "Love is Ageless." Ottawa County Riverview Healthcare Campus will be holding many events during this week to showcase our residents, staff and facility, giving all a chance to shine. Come and be part of our remarkable achievements and witness first hand the beauty and joy that are the motivating force behind Riverview's quality long-term care.
Sunday, May 11, we will be celebrating our Mothers! Residents, families, staff and community members are invited for afternoon Cookies and Tea. Marcia Jess, from the OSU Extension Office, will be presenting "Grandmother's Yellow Pie Plate."
Monday, May 12, we are celebrating 137 years of Riverview Spirit with a Pep Rally at 1:30 p.m., which will feature the Oak Harbor High School Jazz Band.
Tuesday, May 13, we go back in time for 50s day!! We will be serving Root Beer Floats at our front desk all day long. We will dance the afternoon away at our Sock Hop beginning at 2:00 p.m., with a special guest appearance by Elvis Presley.
Wednesday, May 14 is Western Wednesday. We'll begin our day with a FREE CEU offering from Stein Hospice for Social Workers and Nurses. The program will be "Rethinking your Options" and the "Sacred Art of Living and Dying." At 2:00 p.m. we will kick up our heels with a Ho-Down, where we will be serving Haystack Fries (French Fries) and Lasso Rings (Onion Rings).
Thursday, May 15 is Island Day, with a Luau at 2:00 p.m. complete with Fruity Drinks with Umbrellas and Island Music.
Friday, May 16, Riverview will show its patriotism at 11:00 a.m. with a special ceremony for our residents and staff who have served in our Armed Forces.

Beyond creating an enjoyable place for residents to relax and visit with friends and families, we see these events as a very positive way to celebrate the community spirit of Ottawa County Riverview Healthcare Campus and our appreciation for our residents, staff and volunteers who have given so much to make Riverview the great place it is.

Riverview is located in Oak Harbor, Ohio and has been a county owned facility for 137 years. Riverview offers Long and Short Term Stays; Inpatient and Outpatient Therapy (Physical, Occupational, Speech); a specialized Memory Care Unit; a specialized Palliative Care/Hospice Unit; in-house wound care; and Ottawa County's only Adult Day service, DayBreak. A 2007 resident satisfaction survey conducted by the Ohio Department of Aging gave Riverview's Social Services, Therapy Department, Resident and Facility Environments the highest ratings in Ottawa County. Riverview also rated above the state average with approximately 90% of our residents that would recommend Riverview to their family and friends and approximately 90% of our residents reporting satisfaction with the care at Riverview. Riverview was able to successfully return 154 residents safely back to the community in 2007.
