National Volunteer Week was created in 1974 when President Richard Nixon signed an executive order to establish the week as an annual celebration of volunteering. All across the country volunteers will be celebrated and honored April 27-May 3. The theme this year is Volunteer to Change the World, and that is just what American Red Cross volunteers do.

When I read in the News Herald (4-15-08) that Ken Puller pulled out of the Waterworks Nitemare my first thought was - Wonderful - Port Clinton is saved.
I truly believe that our city was on the edge of a serious disaster, one that would of crippled Port Clinton for decades.
I would like to say to Ken Puller - thank you - thank you - thank you.
I would like to ask Mayor Tester if she remembers the speech ex-Mayor Brown gave at the council meeting (4-1-08) about how our administration never makes the same mistake twice.

"ExLibris", the Little Library that Could
Once again I am stunned at the stories that seem to generate around the Bookstore/Lending Library in Marblehead. I was working covering books in clear plastic film for the new lending library when I realized what a neat collection of Civil War books we have. I'm sure there's one terrific history buff and library lover in the area, and I for one am really thankful for all their donations ...

Ottawa Soil and Water Conservation District encourages you to think about your personal responsibility to be a good steward of the natural resources, including water, during its annual Stewardship Week celebration.  The National Association of Conservation Districts (NACD) has proclaimed April 27 through May 4, 2008, as Stewardship Week with the theme "Water is Life".

Make Plans for Summer Fun at Port Clinton City Schools PDF Print E-mail

The last day of school for Port Clinton City School District students is June 5.  Even though students will no longer be in the classroom, there are numerous summer activities taking place in the district.
Champions for Children will once again be offering the Summer Enrichment Camps.  There are eight, one-week sessions beginning on June 16 and ending on August 8.  The summer program offers child care from 7:30a.m. until 3 p.m. with aftercamp care available until 6 p.m.
