Rain, snow and wind have ended any ice fishing and limited boat and shore fishing.  A Lake Erie ice fishing season is unlikely without sustained cold weather in the near future.  The spring fishing season will most likely start in March with a lack of February ice cover.
-The yellow perch daily bag limit on Lake Erie has been reduced to 30 fish per day. The change in yellow perch bag limit occurred after the printing of fishing regulations brochure. The 2007-2008 fishing regulations brochure incorrectly lists the Lake Erie yellow perch bag limit as 40 fish per day, which has now been changed to 30.
-The black bass (largemouth and smallmouth) daily bag limit is 5 fish with a 14" minimum size limit.
-The walleye daily bag limit is 6 fish. The minimum size limit for walleye is 15".
-The steelhead trout daily bag limit is 2. The minimum size limit for steelhead is 12 inches.

David Shuster TuckerFerocity and relentless hunger characterize one of Lake Erie's top predators. If you think I'm talking about walleye or smallmouth, well, they pale in comparison to the voracious nature of this fish.
The white bass is an under utilized sport fish, often thought of as a trash fish to Lake Erie anglers. People in other parts of the country cherish the white bass for its ferocious feeding habits and fast action, not to mention its beauty.

Decoy Carving Event Scheduled at Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge PDF Print E-mail

Spend a day with the champions...champion decoy carvers, that is.
Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge Association and the Maumee Bay Carvers Association are sponsoring a decoy carving event at the Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center on Saturday, January 26, from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m.  Dick Rhode and Rick Johanssen, both world champion decoy carvers, will give presentations on their work at 11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m., respectively.  Members of the Maumee Bay Carvers Association will be on hand to showcase their work and answer questions from the public.  Come view the decoys, learn about this fascinating trade, vote for your favorite decoy in the People's Choice Award, and enter a raffle to win fabulous prizes.
