Wildlife crop damage is widespread and relatively costly.  As a result, it can be a serious concern to producers.  Economic losses to due to wildlife related damage to agricultural producers (farmers and ranchers) exceeds 4.5 billion dollars annually in the United States. Damage can come from a wide variety of critters from Blackbirds, and Canada Geese, to Ground Hogs, Raccoons, and White-tailed deer.

In an effort to better educate the state's recreational boaters about the importance of wearing life jackets, the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Watercraft  announced its "Wear It, Ohio" campaign.
While most adults comply with state law that requires lifejackets for those riding jet-propelled personal watercraft or those being towed by a boat, fewer than one in seven adult Ohio boaters voluntarily wear a U.S. Coast Guard approved life jacket while riding in a boat, according to observations made by state watercraft officers. Wear it, Ohio! aims at changing attitudes toward life jackets.

Live raptor programs, songbird banding demonstrations and roving birding guides are a few of the features that will highlight International Migratory Bird Day, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, May 10, at Magee Marsh State Wildlife Area in Ottawa County. 
In addition to bird watching opportunities at one of the nation's top-ranked birding locations, visitors also will have access to wagon tours of the marsh (10 a.m. to 2 p.m., weather permitting), decoy carving demonstrations, live animal displays including eagles, hawks, and owls, an optics exhibit, food tent and a free drawings.

Nature Tots Program at Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge
Do you have a little one who loves animals and being outside, likes to sing songs, and enjoys listening to stories?  Children ages 3 to 5 years are invited to bring their favorite adult to Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge this Saturday, May 3 from 10:30 - 11:30 a.m. for the monthly "Nature Tots" program in partnership with the Black Swamp Bird Observatory.
